Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Madrid, the major event for Spanish design in the world organised by Ifema, concluded a very successful 64th edition both in terms of the quality of the collections on show and the anticipation that it created. In total, 50,048 people attended this great Spanish fashion show between 15-20 September at Ifema Feria de Madrid and 42 designers and brands took part and were showcased on the catwalk. Furthermore, fifteen young designers exhibited their proposals at the Samsung Ego Showroom at Cibelespacio.

The MBFWM fashion parades took place between 16-20 September in Feria de Madrid hall 14.1 at Ifema Madrid while on 15 September Desigual held a Re-see of its spring-summer 2017 collections for men, women and children at La Casa del Lector at Matadero Madrid with an innovative and surprising new format.

In an original entrance that combined the analogue and digital worlds, visitors were invited to discover the collection and experience the dream that the firm’s designers had during their creative process through an astonishing virtual reality experience.

Adding to the long list of designers and labels back from previous editions of MBFWM were Leandro Cano, after his absence last edition, and Malne, a new Spanish company that took to the catwalk for the first time.

Their entry in the catwalk programme at this year’s edition strengthened Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Madrid's status as one of the great events in the world of international fashion and design, and is a further testament to the continual and decisive support that this show has offered the Spanish fashion industry as a whole for over thirty years now by supporting and gradually incorporating the most important national designers of the moment into its programme.

Since its inception in February 1985, MBFWM has hosted the fashion parades for over 300 Spanish creators. Many of them began their careers while the event was still in its early days and are now major names on the Spanish fashion scene. Other, younger designers have become involved over the years, contributing their talent and fresh perspectives on fashion design in their many and varied creative discourses.

Over recent years, MBFWM has gradually broadened its list to include key names on today's Spanish design scene, such as Alvarno, Felipe Varela, Jorge Vázquez, The 2nd Skin, Juan Vidal, Leandro Cano, Ulises Mérida, María Ke Fisherman, Moisés Nieto and ManéMané, among others, all brands that have received a variety of awards acknowledging their work, and their designs have succeeded in winning over a number of celebrities from the international world of film and music.
