Nel video di oggi del servizio di ADVexpress sullo storytelling nell’audiovisual content, un corto ricco di humour e pathos, che vorrebbe bandire il termine ‘sfigato’ dal personale vocabolario di tutti noi.

Desmondo Ray è piccolo, obeso, sempliciotto e ferito nell’anima (anche se questo viene solo accennato nel suo auto-profilo). Immaturo nelle cose che gli piacciono e borderline autistico nelle cose che non gli piacciono. Il protagonista, insomma, è un disadattato: appare fragile e confuso, ma in fondo mosso da buone intenzioni, addirittura nobili nella sua richiesta finale.
Il regista e animatore australiano Steve Baker (An Imaginary Life, 2007; Dog With Electric Collar, 2009; Following, 2011) scrive un testo che sfugge dal luogo comune del perdente e non si sottrae dal mostrare gli aspetti superficialmente meno attraenti di tutti noi.

up and tell you about Desmondo Ray, aged 33 years and ¾. Change scene.
I work at the local golf-course, collecting golfballs. It’s peaceful under the water. Down here things are easier to understand. I like things that include peeing in the rain, watching buildings burn, altering offensive graffiti, shooting objects with my finger and imagining them explode. Collecting memorabilia, listening to sad music while having happy thoughts. And watching old family footage. My dislikes include the smell of burnt hair and magicians. They lie! Am I turning you on yet? I am looking for love. Are you that person? Please love me? One day, I found a box of old slides in my parents’ bedroom. I would study each and every one over and over. And wonder about all of them. Like, who was that guy? Why that one? Why does that fat lady wear that bright red coat? This guy was definitely a secret agent. And why is this child being kidnapped? But mainly I would wonder about my parents.
I would wonder if they were gentle to each other. Or if they enjoyed the sound of each other’s laughter. Or if they had the same favorite smell. Hello. My name is Desmondo Ray.
