A dieci anni dal lancio della loro campagna innovativa e pionieristica Campaign for Real Beauty (Cannes Grand Prix 2007 per Evolution, Cannes Titanium Grand Prix 2013 per Real Beauty Sketches), Dove ha presentato in questi giorni al Sundance Festival (16-26 gennaio), la principale vetrina per il cinema indipendente americano, il cortometraggio Selfie, realizzato con l’appoggio del Sundance Institute e Women in Film-LA Women Filmmakers Initiative.

Il filmato di otto minuti racconta di un workshop gestito dalla fotografa Michael Crook per le ragazze del liceo Monument Mountain High School nel Massachusetts con l’obiettivo di promuovere la loro autostima ed ampliare la loro prospettiva di bellezza, scattando degli autoritratti con i loro smartphone e postandoli sui social media.
Il documentario è diretto da Cynthia Wade, vincitrice dell’Oscar per Best Documenatry Short nel 2008 con il cortometraggio Freehold, con chiarezza, sintesi e senza pretese. E soprattutto non finge di essere ‘fly-on-the-wall’, la tecnica che simula la realtà come se la macchina da presa e la film crew fossero invisibili ai protagonisti nei loro momenti privati.
