Bea World 2017, Aim Group International vince l’argento ‘Educational/Training Event’ con ‘Siaarti Academy’

World - The International Festival of Events and Live Communication.

Siaarti Academy

Brief description: Aim Group and Siaarti organized an Academy on the island Lampedusa in May 2017 addressed to residents in the field of anaesthesia and resuscitation.

Organising Company: Aim Group International.

Client company:  Siaarti - Società Italiana di Anestesia Analgesia Rianimazione e Terapia Intensiva.

Dates of implementation:  22/05/2017 - 26/05/2017.

Target:  The event was addressed to Italian residents specializing in the fields of anaethesia, intensive care, pain and resuscitation.

Location: Island of Lampedusa, Italy.

Objective of the event: The impact of this educational event would be to bring Siaarti to the front line with an innovative training format addressed to future doctors in the field of anaesthesia, intensive care and resuscitation. Delegates should become aware of hot topics and invited to take part in volunteer programs in difficult contests like Lampedusa, being a backdrop for migrant boat landings and major socio-sanitary challenges. Learning how to handle a maxi-emergency in such a contest was key training topic.

Creative idea and description of the event: To make the practical sessions as realistic as possible a maxi-simulation was organized:  the sinking of a boat was simulated and field hospitals were situated on the beach. The protagonists were the residents themselves:  they were divided in wounded, rescuers and observers and ”dressed the part” to practically test their abilities and put into practice what they had learned the previous days. The fact that it was organized in collaboration with the Coast Guard and the Military Corps of the Italian Red Cross and that all participants had been put on realistic make-up, meant great enthusiasm and high emotional impact. For the previous hands-on sessions were also used state of the art automated dummies that simulated heart attack, delivery, adult and neonatal resuscitation etc.

Effectiveness: 100% of the Faculty considered the students’ attention as very high, while 91% of the participants rated as good/excellent all logistics despite the tough location. This proves the event was meant to gain visibility within the scientific educational Italian framework and not to bring a high Roi.

Media Mix: The Academy was addressed to young Italian residents eager to live a highly practical course. Both Siaarti and Aim Group websites and social media showcased the event with a dedicated hashtag. This turned to be highly effective to engage all participants, who eventually created a Facebook private group in which they have been writing and sharing contents until today. It was so effective that Siaarti Academy was presented as a Best Practice during the Web Marketing Festival in Italy last June.

Budget:  50-100.000 €.

Staging and Set design: Siaarti invited 100 residents from 38 Italian post-graduate schools for its unique Academy. They flew to Palermo, Sicily to be then transferred in little groups to the island of Lampedusa with a small local plane. A week of practical sessions was organized in the local airport, that was transformed into a flexible congress centre. No other particular design or lighting system was installed, as the evocative island spoke for itself. Residents attended plenary lectures and practical sessions in 15 hands-on stations with up-to-date simulation technologies. Every evening they had the task to update a logbook and write down their take-home messages. The event was closed with a maxi-simulation:  the sinking of a boat was simulated, where residents acted as the victims, rescuers and observers.

Concept:  Gaia Santoro, Aim Group International.
